Spotlight on AICAD

AICAD – the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design – is a non-profit consortium of 42 leading art schools in the US and Canada. Membership includes colleges in the US and Canada that are: private, non-profit, free-standing, specialized colleges of art and design, BFA and/or MFA degree granting, and accredited by NASAD (the National Association of Schools of Art & Design) and the appropriate regional accrediting agency.

For years, this entire membership has relied on SlideRoom to collect portfolios during the admissions process. And many use SlideRoom to host every part of their admissions process. Art schools love SlideRoom because the portfolio is the core part of determining merit, not just a supplement.

Most recently, this AICAD network has offered online portfolio review for high schoolers and transfer students beginning to think about future college choices. Prospects of different ages may submit a portfolio and receive a brief critique from chosen schools. While AICAD schools have always widely participated in National Portfolio Day events where everyone meets in person, online review is a low cost way to see and be seen during this important preparatory period.

Teachers are thrilled about the AICAD SlideRoom site when they find out about it. They are like - Finally. Our students need this. There is no other portfolio development resource out there like this! On the other side, AICAD school admissions personnel are excited to be able to easily and effectively connect with prospective applicants before they start the formal admissions process. They find it to be an invaluable tool in their recruitment efforts.

This is a win/win situation for students and the schools. We think more programs like this would be valuable across all types of schools to help personalize college planning. Great job AICAD!
